I'm still watching. And playing catch-up with blog posts.
Hopefully I'll see you on the other side.
Notorious
Starring: Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman
Original release: 1946
Synopsis: A woman is asked to spy on a group of Nazi friends in South America.
There's Nazi's and spies and Ingrid being all giddy and drunk and brave so there's a lot to like.
Cary on the other hand is a bit of cad and stern seriousness which took me by surprise and is still something that I'm not sure works or if it works a little too well. I kind of missed his usual laid back charm.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
Starring: Actors from way back
Original release: 1945
Synopsis: The daily life of a family living in a Brooklyn tenement
during the early 1900s.
Who knew that watching a poor family going about daily life could be so interesting.
Take a Letter, Darling
Starring: Fred MacMurray
Original release: 1942
Synopsis: A struggling painter takes a job as a secretary to a female advertising executive.
You've gotta love the 40's when there were so many of these kinds of movies. Bossy in-charge women, charming up front men, snappy dialogue and sexual tension galore.
Just wonderful.
Take Care of My Little Girl
Starring: Actors who appeared in other more famous movies
Original release: 1951
Synopsis: A young woman enters college and learns some hard truths about sorority life.
Catty and bitchy women 1950's style.
The kind of movie you shouldn't like but weirdly you do.
The Star
Starring: Bette Davis and Sterling Hayden
Original release: 1952
Synopsis: A down on her luck middle aged movie star tries to get back on top.
Bette pretty much play herself, right down to the smoking and drinking.
Really though I came here for Sterling.
Kiss Me Deadly
Starring: Absolutely no idea
Original release: 1955
Synopsis: A female hitchhiker pulls Mike Hammer into a world of intrigue.
Tough guy men, sexy smart women, dangerous going on's... totally me and perfect in every way.
Father Goose
Starring: Cary Grant and Leslie Caron
Original release: 1964
Synopsis: During World War II, a man persuaded to live on an isolated island and
spot aircraft finds himself responsible for a teacher and her female students.
Leslie Caron being completely annoying in every way.
I'm with Cary. I too would have left the hut and moved into the boat with a crate of booze.
Liked it for him and his story line, hated it for her.
