Book Talk: I've Been Reading...

Remember how at the end of last year I said that I might try and read 365 in one year because after all what's an extra 100 books or so added in.  Well 8 days in and it seems that I'm doing that, unintentionally of course because trying to read that many books in one year really does sound like hard work and that's one thing reading should never be.  Life is too short to read 'bad books' or to push yourself to read something or to read it fast and skim bits just because you've got a target.  So target you are no longer a thing and instead I'll carry on reading for the pure enjoyment of it like I have always done.

Still 10 books in 8 days in pretty good going, even for me. Then again some of them were only novellas so really I can't gloat too much.

My first few books for the year were my usual Christmasy reads because what's Christmas without a few Christmas themed books.
These were just the perfect light, fluffy reads that you need at this time of the year when the brain, stomach and emotions are just too full and you just want to chill and relax and not think about anything much.  Chick lit and contemporary romances are my go-to when I really want to veg out and wallow in all the feel-good feels.

With the brain rested it was time for some non-fiction, first up was one of those quirky and slightly funny living-the-rural-lifestyle books that I enjoy.  And no I do not have any plans on having 30 sheep etc.
Speaking of quirky or maybe I should say fascinating, my next read was all about the Myers-Briggs personality test and the two women who invented it.  I found this totally interesting and ended up reading it in one go.

Crime was next with 2 series I've been working my way through.  The David Raker series by Tim Weaver is particularly good so I'm kind of happy that there is still another 6 books to go.
And finally one that I'm kind of torn about.  It's had rave reviews and yet I can't say if I like it or not.  On one hand I loved the idea of this book about a bullied teenage girl who talks to her 23 year old self through a mirror.  Such an interesting concept and yet parts of the plot really annoyed me - mostly the ones do to with her possible love interest and how that all played out.  It bugged the hell out of me.  I'd be curious as to what others think.
