The Viewing Files: More Movies

Still oldies I'm afraid.  But when they are kid flicks do we really mind?

Weirdly enough I hadn't seen any of these since I was a kid so it was a lot of fun rewatching them.  I'm now just going to flop into a floppy flop feel good pile.

Pete's Dragon

Starring: A dragon and a singing lady who had a ton of hit songs in the 70s.

Original release: 1977

Synopsis:  A boy and his invisible dragon find a home.

 

Elliot the dragon is awesome.

 

As for the rest... give it a pass and skip through it. It's just all a bit over long and silly especially the hillbillies who may or may not be cannibals. And isn't that just what you want in a Disney movie. Not

The Sound of Music

Starring: Julie Andrews

Original release: 1965

Synopsis: She's a ex-nun who just wants to sing.  He's a grumpy widower with a dozen kids.  True Love it is.

Damn it. Those songs are just so bloody catchy. There are also Nazi's. Being mean. So yeah there is much to love about this movie.

Damn Julie and her wonderful singing and the beautiful scenery and the cute kids.

Ma and Pa Kettle

Starring: Way too many kids

Original release: 1949

Synopsis: Like Darling Buds of May with a hell of a lot more kids.

Reminds me of our family dinners... but without the 15 kids.

 

Completely silly which is part of it's charm.

Francis The Talking Mule

Starring: Donald O'Connor

Original release: 1950

Synopsis:  A man's best friend is his... mule.

Worth it just for the talking mule and for Donald O'Connor's constant visits to the psychiatric ward.

Dumbo

Original release: 1941

Synopsis: A baby elephant, his giant ears and a mouse.

Take tissues.  Seriously, you're gonna need them.  Sad and uplifting at the same time it definitely requires tissues... and chocolate.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Original release: 1977

Synopsis:  A honey loving bear and his adventures.

Like I'm seriously not going to love Winnie the Pooh. He's my spirit animal in pretty much every way.

Excuse me why I curl up and wallow.

Mary Poppins

Starring: Julie Andrews

Original release: 1964

Synopsis: A nanny arrives to help sort out a family

I didn't like this as a kid and I still don't like it as an adult.

Sorry Mary... and Julie.

Swiss Family Robinson

Starring: Hayley's dad and that guy from the original Hawaii 5 O.

Original release: 1960

Synopsis: The Robinson family are shipwrecked on a island

I really want that treehouse.  And the 2 Great Danes

Entertaining the way Disney movies were back in the day.

Sleeping Beauty

Original release: 1959

Synopsis: A princess and a curse.

It's not perfect but God this movie is still good. Just the right amount of light and fluffy with the 3 ditzy fairies, a touch of romance and some glorious badness with the Evil Witch.

There's also a dragon.

Totally worth watching.
